Notley Abbey Wedding

A Notley Abbey wedding is one of those rare exceptional and stylish UK wedding venues. A stunning medieval manor house steeped in history. A Notley Abbey Wedding has everything. Splendour, romance, history and a magnificent backdrop. Apart from hosting exclusive weddings, Notley Abbey was once the home of Sir Lawrence Oliver and Vivian-Leigh. One can only imagine the lavish parties they hosted. Marilyn Monroe, Katherine Hepburn and Judy Garland were just a few of their glamorous celebrity guests. Notley Abbey was the perfect romantic setting for this stylish couple. It even catered for Courtney’s American father giving the Groom impromptu fly fishing lessons!

I arrived for this Notley Abbey Wedding early on a beautiful Sunny day. Unfortunately I’d been hit by a German articulated lorry on the way back to London from the previous day’s ceremony in Oxford. My car was looking rather forlorn but that wasn’t going to spoil my excitement for the day ahead. I wasn’t disappointed. Courtney and her bridesmaids were getting ready in the Bridal suite. Dan and his father were outside admiring Notley Abbey’s gorgeous blue and cream vintage Bentley! Later they’d be getting into their tails with the Groomsmen in the Cottage by the river.

The ceremony was held in the open under a blue sky with a good friend acting as officiant and also dressed in blue! Courtney looked amazing in her wedding dress from Divine Designs in the US and accessories from Gillion Million in London. Dan, Best man and the Groomsmen looked very smart in matching suits and lavender finishing touches. Dan’s little nephew didn’t disappoint either. Dressed in a wicked suit he proudly delivered the wedding bands to the couple. Such a lovely ceremony. The Bridesmaids looked gorgeous. The readings were heart warming. Once again the odd tear was shed but there were also plenty of smiles, whoops and applause!

After the ceremony it was time for Champagne and Canapés in the gardens. I slipped away with the couple for a photo walk in Notley Abbey’s grounds and then some family group photos on the front lawn. The wedding breakfast was held in the Monks Refectory. A lovely airy space with exposed brick and wooden beams. Touching and witty speeches were delivered after the main course including some beautiful heartfelt words from Courtney’s sister.

Finally the party. What a party! After the first dance their friends weren’t shy when it came to getting down on the dance floor! A brilliant end to a fantastic weekend and I’m sure it carried on well after I left! I felt quite sad on the drive home in my reshaped car knowing that it was all over!

A special thank you to Jeni Crabb, wedding planner from Vanilla Rose Weddings. Super helpful, thoughtful and friendly from beginning to end. Jeni really worked hard to make it a day to remember for Courtney, Dan and their guests. Thank you also to Mona Ali of Artomedes Photography for some brilliant photography and support. Finally, but by no means last a huge thank you to all the staff at Notley Abbey. They couldn’t be any more professional. Perfectionists down to every last detail.

Massive love to Courtney and Dan xox
