They say that the Savoy Hotel is “London’s most famous hotel”. Having photographed a beautiful Savoy Hotel wedding here I can understand why.
When Ellie and Phil were married at the Savoy Hotel it was a perfect London Summers day. They also discovered why the Savoy Hotel enjoys such an enviable reputation. The Savoy Hotel opened in 1891. It was built adjacent to the Savoy Theatre, famous for staging all of the Gilbert and Sullivans Operas.
Ellie stayed in an opulent suite elegantly decorated in Edwardian English and Art Deco. The room had a stunning vista across the Thames and London. She prepared here for the wedding with her bridesmaids and a bottle of perfectly chilled vintage Taittinger! The afternoon ceremony then took place in the Princess Ida and Patience room. So named after Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic Oper. Here the couple exchanged vows in front of a close knit gathering of family and friends. After sealing their marriage with a lingering kiss, the newly wed couple led their guests next door to the Pinafore room for a Champagne reception and some delicious canapés. As a Savoy Hotel wedding this was very much in the August Escoffier tradition! After being congratulated and hugged by everyone, we discreetly slipped away for a special photo session. Thanks to the really helpful Savoy Hotel staff we took full advantage of the recently renovated Savoy Hotel. We were kindly granted private access to the Gold and Black Beaufort Bar and the Savoy’s sumptuous lift car. The decoration in the lift is a Chinese style red lacquered wood panelling. We then stepped out into the warm London air for a few photo’s around Savoy Place courtyard and finally a relaxed photo session together in Embankment Gardens. Finally a quick dash upstairs for a handful of group photo’s before the couple cut a beautiful wedding cake to rapturous applause and then onto dinner.
The service at the Savoy Hotel is impeccable, yet the atmosphere is surprisingly relaxed. The staff are friendly and meticulously attentive, right down to the very last detail. Nothing is left to chance. That’s what makes a Savoy Hotel wedding so special.
Ellie and Phil made their little day of romantic history at the Savoy Hotel. They join a list of famous guests including Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor, Charlie Chaplin, Claude Monet and of course the Beatles!
