Since I’m based in Dulwich I’m always happy to photograph a Dulwich College Wedding. It’s one of the most famous schools in the UK. Probably the best in the world. Having two sons taught there makes it quite special to me. So a Dulwich College Wedding is the icing on the cake.
The school was originally founded in 1619 by Edward Alleyn. The original intention was to educate 12 scholars. The current site of Dulwich College was created in 1870 on 60 acres of Dulwich Estate land. The building was designed by the famous British architect Charles Barry Junior whose father designed the Houses of Parliament. The design is based on North Italian architecture from the thirteenth century. To really appreciate it, look at it from the East side as the summer sun is setting in the East. The red brick Palladium structure really comes alive then!
Dulwich College Wedding does Eastenders!
Enough about Dulwich College! This Dulwich College Wedding had a distinct Eastenders theme. The bride, previously an actress is famous across the UK for her role in the BBC Soap Eastenders as ‘Mary the Punk’. Naturally that meant some household names would be in attendance. Nasty Nick didn’t disappoint! Dot Cotton was there along with designer Linda Barker. The actors Don Warrington of Rising Damp and Peter Sallis from Last of the Summer Wine also showed.
It was an unforgettable wedding day. The couple tied the knot in the Dulwich College Old Library. Their son was Best Man and a close friend from their hometown Liverpool, gave the Bride away. After the ceremony it was just a short walk around the corner for some delicious food and lots of drink. The couple made sure that all their guests would be well catered for. Especially the children. They weren’t disappointed. Bouncy castle, huge BBQ, Piñata, bands, Ice Cream Van and non stop Champagne all added to the magic of the day. I just love a Dulwich College Wedding!
