A RIBA wedding at 66 Portland Place in London is just the venue for a sophisticated wedding. Noteworthy for its stunning art deco architecture and interior and situated smack bang in the heart of London’s West end. I love a RIBA wedding! This was a civil partnership ceremony between two lawyers who clearly wanted a touch of class on their big day. Everyone dressed beautifully. Black tie dress code and didn’t they look fabulous. Guests flew in from all over the world including Barbados, Switzerland and the USA. Also lovely to see a couple of guests whose wedding I’d photographed previously at Trinity House near the Tower of London!
The day of the wedding the weather was full on sunshine. A challenge to photograph with the sun streaming through the floor to ceiling windows on one side. Challenging too for the couple as they read their vows in the sweltering heat. Luckily some of the guests had wisely brought fans. A RIBA wedding is all about occasion. A pianist played the grand piano in the lobby as guests sipped cocktails and tucked into canapés. Furthermore the catering was absolutely exquisite. Just outside the main room is a compact terrace with welcome shelter from the blistering sunshine. More cocktails, hugs and kisses before the wedding breakfast and cake cutting. The cake alone was an architectural triumph worthy of Sir Norman Foster. In contrast it was much cooler inside before the temperature rose again at party time.
And what a party it was. No holding back as everyone got on the floor after the couples first dance. Big smiles in attendance here and a couple very much in love. Without a doubt their guests had a fantastic day. And so did I. Can’t wait to photograph another RIBA wedding! Thank you guys 🙂
