It’s awesome being a Roundhouse Event Photographer. The Roundhouse is an amazing venue for the Performance Arts in Camden. Hosts some top concerts and events including the legendary ‘Doors’ only appearance. Originally The Roundhouse was a railway shed. It’s now a Grade II listed building. Used to next door in Primrose Hill in the 80’s and then it was mostly derelict. Good to see that today it’s a vibrant addition to London’s music and arts scene.
As a Roundhouse Event Photographer I was commissioned to photograph the annual Honours Awards Night for the Creative Circle. Otherwise known as the Creative Circle Ball. Every year they hold it at the Roundhouse in Camden and this was the first time I’d covered it. It’s one of the highlights for Advertising Creatives in the Communications Industry where due recognition is rewarded for outstanding creativity across a range of categories. The evening was hosted by Radio 1 DJ, Edith Bowman and the Creative Circle President, Ed Morris. The magnificent voice of Paloma Faith was the big act to round of the night and irresistible catering supplied by The London Kitchen.
Photographing events like this can be challenging. It’s a huge area for one person to cover. The light quality is varied. Often too dark in the wings or incredibly bright under the lightshow. Then just as you think you have the exposure and framing right a sweeping red gobo ruins the shot. Timing is everything!
As a Roundhouse Event Photographer my take away from the night was the film ‘Life Story’ created by top Advertising Agency BBH for the Barnado’s charity. Amazing short film. BBH won a well deserved Gold in the Charity Category.
